~Didja~get~on~a~bus~Jack~~Jill? How was it? What did you think of the DASH? Where did you go? What did you do? Did you make it --to the Big Dig of one-day Silver Lake Library? --Who was there? --See any drawings --architect --Friends Of? How was it? --Someone said Mayor V. was out --did you spot him?
Did you stop at Sunset Junction? What was going on there? Did you get any goodies --freebies? --Who participated --which shops did you pop into? Did you Meet Up with pals --family? How many were on the bus trips you made --full --sparse? Stop at Dog Park? Did you have any prob --boarding with the furry family-member? --Over to the Farmer's Market? --Lunch? --Who with? Tell! Tell!
I picked up a tomorrow-snack at Tropical and a table-full of people having coffee: told me they had taken the DASH, took entire round trip --one said he came back to start point --then went east and back. --To 'prove' it he said he 'paid his quarter.' lol, Told him DASH was free --all day, he said he didn't mind 'contributing' --he wants the DASH to come back! Once I was on: Whoa! --Wood-paneled! Never saw a bus dressed in wood before...someone said the buses were "borrowed from West Hollywood." Say, the WeHo's Know how to live. Pret-ty classy! At the same time: kinda cozy, with the wood out-door kind of bench seats. Was DASH you were on like that? Different? How?
Nice people having fun, I never saw before, on the DASH. --Did you have that experience? Even the bus drivers were friendly. It was partly filled when I got on, people joined at every stop, nearly full by the time I departed. Kewl!
One of the women: who worked Hard to get DASH --this far. Thanked her. A man --who worked on the election --who, gosh, had read this Blog! Major kewl. Thanks! Yes, SLNC held an election today, DASH stopped at the polling place. --You could have also. Why didn't I mention that, two weeks ago --at all? Mostly: I'm ticked, at the Board members. Not Enough was done --to reach Entire community --to find candidates --in my opinion. They had all summer.... More on that, some other time, maybe.
A woman got on --without a purse. Everyone was chatting, so I asked --why: She said she got on right near her home, it was her sixth trip of the day --she walked out of her kitchen, leaving dinner to cook, her husband to babysit it. lol, Hiya Christine! V. kewl person. A couple, intently discussing --art --concert --movie choices? Pretty weather --no rotten mean heat, electrical storm, fire --flood --rain --hurricane, tsnumi...bullets... black-outs or shortage. Just fat clouds, plastered in front of pastel blue --above grey-blue Reservoir... on~a~ clear ~Satur-day~afternoon..... The driver asked a neighbor/passenger to dispose of her unwanted soda, and cheerfully obliged. In just a few stops: one could feel Community --neighbors --the boundary of Silver Lake...we all live Here --This spot... Hello --Oh, Hi...we were all --Home...This wedge of the world...the Lucky part... Silver Lake daVine....
So: round the Reservoir I went --to Trader Joe's. --Stopped Right in Front, whoa, Nice. You know: You cannot get to TJ's from here --there is No Bus --364 days a year....
How Goofy is that --entire area around TJ's, in every direction: Business --shops --cafes --markets. What's up with that --which Pea-brain --laid out the regular bus routes --didn't route a bus Into/Around --the necessaries??? --EVERY man --woman --child Has their Own Transport --so what, if short hops, pollute? LA: Needs to Grow Up. I spent nearly entire childhood in San Francisco --traveling the length, breadth of it --because I Could --every three -five minutes --a bus/trolly/street-car/cable car whized by. We don't even have Regular buses over entire main grid, never-mind DASH, sheesh. We Demand DASH --We Demand DASH! Silver Lake MUST Have DASH --Now --THIS Week. I will publish this, then search for links --to addresses we can Cram Full to get DASH Here. Be back with them later...Silver Lake daVine...
NOTE Now It's Your turn: Really wanna know, Your experience of DASH day...leave a Comment...
NOTE I found another new toy --in this blog, it is a "Poll" feature. So: I'll create, figure out How to put up, and write a question...I'm think'n --national election...parking meters...lots of things.... What do you think we should Poll ourselves about? Post'm if you've got'm....Silver Lake daVine...

What CAN You Do?
Unless You:
made Forbes’ “Wealthiest 100” on the planet List
–Or sole person who knows ‘magic weapons’ location US military is ‘hunting’ and entire cache they left un-guarded –Or the Actual “higher authority” Oval Office occupant consults
unlikely YOU can stop war in Iraq. In two generations: people will not be able to see a polar bear, an elephant, a dozen different kinds of birds, a glacier…so –You can save how many from extinction?
We yell at the TV –rant over coffee with friends –fume over inability to Change A Thing, but who wants to join protest rally –Iraq Invasion –Global Pollution, get beaten or arrested by LAPD’s finest, and what good would it accomplish anyway?
Without vast wealth --unique knowledge --supernatural ability: What Can YOU do –about two of the most serious issues going? You can use your power. You Can send a message straight to Washington. YOU can: get on a bus. Don’t laugh.
Neighbors in Silver Lake worked Very Hard, Very Long: to get a DASH bus in the neighborhood. Bureaucrats: rewarded their work by putting SL on the List –at 22nd –to get a bus. –As in: the next millennium, maybe.
People sitting on the Fraud Squad: too busy doing ‘desperately’ needed condo, hotel, maul [sic] deals with developers, funding spy cameras, approving destruction of landmarks and swiping personal freedom, rights to care, help. Bureaucrats, Fraud Squad: if there’s no money in it for them, Pay attention only when there is heat, noise –LOTS of people involved. –Unless: there is a Photo Op in it for them….
YOU can –make a Huge photo op –make ALL Pay Attention –affect pollution coming out of Silver Lake: Ride the Bus September 29. If You –pull in everyone you know to get on the bus that day –buses packed –show bureaucrats: Silver Lake MUST have a DASH –Now.
–Think busses are ‘creepy’? Over 200 species are on “Endangered” list, will be extinct in a few years because of drought, heat –flood –fire –contaminates. –So –don’t want to leave your car parked, even for one day? Creepy will be –a world without creatures, plants, trees.
You already have plans –You will be working –You’re a realtor who has to take clients? Arrange your day with the bus route and times. –Clients, buyers, customers will be Impressed that you care and will see what sort of neighborhood we have.
–You –not on the Bus: don’t bother again trying to convince –“care” about war or about pollution. If You don’t care about either one: Post your address below, in Comments –so we can all avoid you.
But if we Get DASH bus IN Silver Lake and USE it: we will be the Start of Less Oil –Less ‘reason’ to invade oil-holding countries –less pollution thrown into the atmosphere causing planet to heat up/destroying polar bears…glaciers –save species –and Money. –DOING instead of ranting. –Sending message to Washington –inspiring residents all over to demand home-grown solutions/politicians to step Up.
Use YOUR power: Send a Message to the bureaucrats –get on the DASH Bus Sept. 29. –Force them to spend OUR money –Wisely. Link, Email your list. Meet up –on the bus. That’s Silver Lake daVine.
IF you need another reason to USE your power: one day, if you’re lucky, you will be of an age –not able to drive anymore. How do you imagine you will get groceries –go to the park –anywhere, then? Would you like to go out and protest –demand a DASH then? Make the bureaucrats Listen –Now. You CAN Bookmark the Date. You CAN get on the bus!
You cannot change Entire world, but you –ALL neighbors can: make a difference in This One piece of the world. Put your Body where your Mouth is –Saturday September 29, 2007

LA City Council Priorities: Less Pollution, Traffic or More Meters?
The peeps sitting on the Los Angeles City Council --you remember: came around, looked you and your neighbors in the eye, said they wanted to look out for you, but they couldn't unless you gave them your vote? --Oh, they didn't look you in the eye --you didn't meet? Well --next time, Maybe. --If you're a big Enough donor.... Or: ya got a swell real estate development idea....
Well Those guys, 'look'n out for us' --are looking at Priorities. They are considering: More parking meters --500 more --in Silver Lake. Now think about that. Where are those guys gonna Get the Money --to Purchase FIVE HUNDRED meters? Just Exactly from WHICH category will they be subtracting the Money: to do the sidewalk-cutting & tree-removal for 500 meters? The bill to Maintain 500 Meters --covered by?
FER SURE: it Ain't com'n outta the one where They get $150,000 Bucks a year --to "look out for us." --Their annual, uh, salary --plus staff, plus car plus gas plus staff, rent, supplies and ya know, "Expenses." One ex Council member, who has since moved on to state legislature, 'represented' his constituents with: $5,000 bucks worth of --flowers. You didn't mind, that you paid taxes so he could send some peeps flowers, didja? YOU didn't get any flowers? Oh well.
The Priorities of those 'Look'n Out for You' guys has shifted, a bit. We don't seem to have Enough money --for 1,000 more cops. --More health clinics --more staff? --Those once-touted Synchronized traffic lights? Pah-leeese. But there somehow is Enough for More Meters....
Yet If Silver Lake: had DASH buses --there would be Fewer cars --less Pollution --less Traffic.
Which would You rather have --Less traffic --or more Parking Meters? Hmm.... I Wouldn't have thought THAT was a tough call. Apparently the bureaucrats have a Different view: they put Silver Lake at the End of the Line --for getting DASH buses. TODAY is the DASH Day --for riding DASH Free --all day, all around Silver Lake. Show the bureaucrats: Your Priority. --Bring the neighbors, the grandparents, every person you know and Pack those buses TODAY! Some merchants have treats waiting, you will see the "Proposed" route. Heck, You might even see one of those 'Look'n Out for You' guys. If you do: Ask --WHY IS there money for Meters --but None for Pollution-reducing Traffic-busting Solution?
If you get an Answer: Post it in Comments, so we can all Get a Clue --on THEIR Priorities.

Rotten Hot in Silver Lake...
Labor Day week-end...Premiere of this blog...Friday it was 106F...Saturday 109F... Sunday 112F --112??? Sheesh. Who do I have to see to get the heat turned down? This native Californian can remember: a September day, in Los Angeles, first day of school, 9th Grade, 103F...another September day, in San Francisco, 100F at 10 am in art school...but 112F??? --that's insane.
Yet, it must be that hot --in Greece, still, with the forest fires and in Baghdad it's even hotter, and American military are wearing fatigues and equipment. So not to whine and to keep what's left of my brains: I keep trying to catch nature stories about snow, on PBS, and remembering: end of November and a week in December,
last year, when temp dropped to 32F in Silver Lake. Remember? So cold Gov. Armpit showered Millions on growers for damaged citrus and avacado groves.
But it Doesn't help. It's rotten mean hot, gonna stay hot until Summer in Southern California ends, early November. --You do know: that's how to tell if the person on the local news rag-tv pointing at weather maps, is an import --from somewhere else. When they drone on and on about 'what a surprise it's hot in September --October --November' --you know they don't know any thing about our seasons.
Flooding in Texas, and five other states --even in the east, drought --hurricanes --tornadoes and rotten mean heat here. Can you imagine, how much worse it would be, IF global pollution Was changing the weather? Well, according to Oval Office Occupant --it's not. Whew! Glad that's settled. All those pesky scientist types --will just have to find somebody else to talk to.
Ah well, change the channel, look at pictures of glaciers --while it's still possible, spray some cold water on the back of your neck, pray for rain. --Keep the kitten and puppy members of your family indoors, out of the sun.
